2019 Ram 1500 spy shots have provided an intriguing sneak peak at this eagerly awaited upcoming half-ton, with likely changes including:

  • Innovative 60/40-Split Tailgate

  • RamBox Bedside Storage Compartments

  • New Grille and Headlights

  • Vertically-Oriented Touchscreen

  • Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Detection

It’s not set to hit the roads of Hayward, Rice Lake, and Cumberland for some time, but we’re confident it’ll match the popularity of the sought-after 2018 Ram 1500 when it finally does.

The Split Tailgate

It was a little over three years ago that Auto Blog discovered a patent showing a truck tailgate that split in the middle, and the 2019 Ram 1500 seems to be making that concept a reality.

It’s not a 50/50 split. Instead, the 2019 Ram 1500 spy shots point to a 60/40 or possible 70/30 split. In either case, it should offer plenty of flexibility when you’re opening in more cramped or confined areas, and it’s likely to be one of the vehicle’s most conspicuous changes.

We’ve noted the return of the beloved RamBox bedside storage compartments, but the main exterior changes are concerned with style. The 2019 Ram 1500 redesign seems to cover:

  • Raised headlights

  • More sculpted hood and front bumper

  • Model and engine badging across the hood

The grille now drops below the headline, changing the Ram’s traditional appearance in the process. It’s also missing the distinct crosshairs of previous models, and there’s now only one horizontal bar.

The 2019 Ram 1500 seems to feature high-end technology in spades including:

  • Vertically-Oriented Touchscreen with Possible Uconnect Interface

  • New Toggle Switches

We’re also confident that the upcoming Ram 1500 will adopt most of the advanced safety technology that’s become widespread across the industry. The 2019 Ram 1500 spy shots hint at embedded blind-spot and rear cross-traffic detectors, just like the Ford F-150. Could Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Collision Mitigation Braking be waiting in the wings?
